Healthy Smoothies (kid approved!)

For the ones new to healthy eating and are yet to try a green smoothie, just do it – I know that it initially seems so intimidating to drink something this color but trust me, you’ll get addicted to them soon enough! I never thought that I’d be drinking glasses of parsley, kale, avocado, and spinach for breakfast before I started my healthy eating adventure.

Don’t worry though; these recipes don't go as far as to contain parsley and thanks to the blueberries and banana they are actually nice and sweet, so it’s the perfect introduction to green smoothies.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Breakfast Smoothie (featured on video)

1 ripe banana

1/2 ripe avocado

1 1/4 cups of cold almond milk

2/3 cup frozen berries

handful of spinach, kale or other leafy green

2 Medjool dates

optional: 1 tsp vainilla extract

Discard the avocado pit and place everything into a blender and blend until smooth and creamy.

Classic Berry Smoothie

1 ripe banana

1/2 cup raspberries

1/2 cup blueberries

1/3 cup strawberries

3 tablespoons coconut milk

1 teaspoon almond butter.

Simply peel the banana, then place it into the blender with the berries, coconut milk and almond butter and blend until smooth and creamy.

Tropical Smoothie

1/2 mango

1 thick slice of pineapple

1 1/4 cups coconut water

handfdul of cashews

2 tablespoons coconut milk

juice 1/2 lime

optional: handful of porridge oats

Peel the mango and cut its flesh off the pit into the blender. Add the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth and creamy.

Spirulina Smoothie

1 ripe banana

1 cup of frozen blueberries

1 cup of spinach

1 cup of kale

3/4 of a cup of water,  almond milk or coconut water

1 tablespoon of chia seeds

1 teaspoon of hemp protein powder

 1 teaspoon of spirulina

Optional: 2 Medjool dates

Spirulina is a superfood with tremendous health benefits! Considered a complete protein, this blue-green algae provides an ideal balance of all nine essential amino acids. It’s also naturally loaded with vitamins A through E, iron, potassium, calcium, and antioxidants. Mix it into virtually any food or liquid, to add a significant boost of protein, vitamins, and minerals to your everyday diet. So get drinking, it will do wonders for your mind and body, making you beautiful inside and out.

Handy dandy Tip: Hate spirulina taste? Pour the powder in 1/4 of your smoothie and gobble it as fast as you can, then enjoy the rest of the smoothie :)
